Between 2008 and 2012, NRM Regions Queensland (then known as the Queensland NRM Regional Group’s Collective published a series of quarterly newsletters known as the NRM Rumble.

The newsletters, which were distributed electronically and in hard-copy format to thousands of people across the state, provide a historical snapshot of the significant scope of works being undertaken by Queensland’s NRM sector through those years.

The newsletters report on significant outcomes such as one million hectares under improved management as a result of the Australian Government’s Reef Rescue program – including interviews with land managers who improved their land management practices as a result of investment.

In 2011, one edition of the Rumble focussed on how regional NRM organisations were engaging young people. Terrain NRM reported on how it was planning to activate social media to help make those connections. There were also stories about inter-generational farming, bursaries for young scientists and Bunya Mountain Murri Rangers delivering ‘kids on Country’ activities.

In 2009, one edition of the NRM Rumble focussed on climate change, profiling some of the work being undertaken by regional NRM organisations in that space. There were articles focussed on the impacts of climate change in the Torres Strait, a terrestrial carbon pilot in Far North Queensland, how regions were improving the condition of remnant vegetation and increasing groundcover to withstand longer, dry periods and helping farmers understand the burgeoning carbon market.

Other newsletters, focussed on sustainable agriculture, landscape resilience, food security, biosecurity, pest plans and animals, Indigenous land and sea management, managing disasters, community skills and knowledge and NRM in remote north Australia were also published during that period.
