At the Win TV Regional Achievement and Community Awards Gala Dinner on the Sunshine Coast, the Northern Gulf Resource Management Group (NGRMG) took out the Environment and Landcare category. This prestigious award recognises the efforts of groups or individuals that show a proven passion and dedication to reducing environmental impacts and empowering their local communities to improve their management practices.
The Northern Gulf Resource Management Group has expanded its work over the past five years, working with small and remote communities for a sustainable and productive future across the region. Over the past five years NGRMG has grown to 25 staff covering a range of innovative projects including Ghost Nets, Northern Gulf Indigenous Savannah Group, Intensive Agriculture and Mapping, Extensive Agriculture and Mapping, Biodiversity and Junior Landcare. All of this has been achieved with community and industry being directly involved in all projects.
A not for profit community driven organisation, the NGRMG have an impressive history, changing landscape and ocean health thus securing our natural resources for current and future generations. In essence, by pooling the skills, knowledge and commitment of a wide group of local people the NGRMG has brokered Government, research and development, business and philanthropic investments to real on-ground results. And despite being a small group the NGRMG are all about BIG achievements. From a remote region the NGRMG has achieved State, National and International outcomes through their efforts and creative problem solving.
NGRMG’s Planning and Partnerships Manager Sarah Connor said “this award really recognises the strength that we have in our staff and membership, we are passionate about achieving the community’s aspirations and will tackle just about anything”.
